In a letter dated 13th February, 2020 from the Tobacco Commission addressed to all industry stakeholders, the Commission has approved TAMA Farmers Trust among four other grower bodies to represent tobacco growers in the 2020 marketing season.
Based on registered growers database criterion, TAMA Farmers Trust is the largest grower body among the approved five grower bodies.
This is for the first time that 5000 registered grower target was implemented using the 2019 Tobacco Industry Act No.10.
There were over 40 tobacco grower bodies that operated on the ground before this law was passed.
