TAMA Farmers Trust has been recognized again for its strong commitment to eliminating child labour in Malawi’s tobacco sector, reinforcing its leadership in promoting decent work and safeguarding children’s rights. The organization has consistently campaigned against child labour in tobacco production, urging farmers to keep children in school and ensure only adults handle tobacco. The award highlights collaboration with partners such as the Eliminating Child Labour in Tobacco Growing (ECLT) Foundation, the International Labour Organization (ILO), and government regulators. The recognition underscores TAMA’s long-term strategy: combining farmer sensitization, cooperative strengthening, and monitoring systems to ensure compliance with international labour standards. TAMA Farmers Trust’s retention of the award is not just symbolic—it is a practical assurance to global markets that Malawi’s tobacco sector is committed to ethical labour practices. The International Tobacco Growers’ Association (ITGA) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) alongside the InterTabac and InterSupply 2025 fairs in Dortmund, Germany. This strategic partnership gave ITGA members unprecedented access to the global tobacco supply chain and ensured that growers’ voices were heard at the world’s leading event for the sector. Representatives from four continents attended, including delegates from Argentina, Brazil, the United States, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Bulgaria, and India.
